Dixon Legion Post 208 Honors 50-year Members

Dixon Vets Remember D-Day

 American Legion Post 208 remembered those who sacrificed so much on that day 60 years ago. Post Commander William Allard read General Dwight Eisenhower's words he spoke to send them off on that mission where almost 5,000 would died that day. American Legion Post 208 held a Ceremony for the Disposal of Unserviceable Flags at sunset on Flag Day, June 14th. Fifty-nine worn and faded US flags were honorably destroyed after providing service to citizens. Opening Ceremonies for Baseball Season

On April 5, 2003 members of Dixon posts of American Legion 208 and Veterans of Foreign War 8151 conducted joint Color Guard Flag Presentation opening ceremonies for the Dixon Little League and the Dixon Girls Softball League.
Members of the Color Guard unit on this occasion were J. Michael Brown, team captain, California Flag; Paul Jones; POW/MIA Flag,; Tony Chavez, American Legion Flag; Heber Holbrook, American Flag; and Mark Richards, VFW Flag.
Under bright sunny skies Dixon Little League’s opening ceremony started at 9:00 a.m. and dipping of the POW/MIA flag followed by playing of the National Anthem at the same time raising of the colors at the flag pole.
At 10:00 a. m. the opening ceremony for the Dixon Girls Softball League then took place with a moment of silence and dipping of the POW/MIA flag followed by singing of the National Anthem by Miss Nialani Green, a sophomore at Dixon High School.
The baseball fields, located at Hall Park, south of City Hall and just to the east of Dixon May Fair grounds, brought out a large gathering of players and fans. The games began at both fields by Dixon Mayor Maryann Courville throwing out the first pitch.
